The founder of Hillbilly Dan's Custom Wood Signs, aka Hillbilly Dan and now Cool Springs Wood Crafts. I was born and raised in the heart of the Virginia Blue Ridge Mountains, in Madison County. Being an avid outdoorsman myself, I've always been acquainted with the natural elements and sense of creativity around them. I hope to create art that you adorn in your home for years to come.
I hand rout custom signs on Western Cedar boards, and also various other soft woods such as select Pine and Poplar. These are the most common and my personal recommendations, however other woods are available upon request. I can carve many fonts, logos, and symbols of your choice. All standard signs are 7/8 X 6x24 and larger upon request. If it's a size, I can make it! Each sign is unique in their own way and hand built especially for you. I put every ounce of love into each piece of art. I look forward to working with you and your design!
New Update 2025
Just recently I stumbled across a You Tube video on woodturning. I instantly wanted to try it. I logged many hours watching them and discovered that there was a kinship to woodturning. for me. I decided to purchase a lathe and some woodturning tools and my new journey has begun. Luckily I have many Friends who are Arbonists and wood began to stack up in the form of logs and in various sizes . So the name of my Business has changed to incorporate my newest wood related adventure and I am happy to share it with you .During this journey I discovered the fun in making Charcuterie Boards as well. So now I am busy from making signs ,wood turning bowls and making Charcuterie boards and I thank everyone who has followed me and supported me during this journey. I just added something new to my fun projects ,that is resin work with Charcuterie Boards and sign layouts. Stay tuned for some eye catching designs!
Well I have added another path to my Hobby trail. I am now doing laser engraving. I can customize your boards and also engrave wood and slate coasters. I plan on doing photos on ceramic tiles soon. I also have started taking custom Christmas ornament orders ,so if you have a need for any custom ornaments just give me a call. New Update February 2025
Wow how the time flies by. I now am looking at retirement in December this year. I have gotten my third shop completed, well the best I can,with all the growth. I have exceeded my expectations with my laser inventory and since added two CNC machines. I now can laser and CNC work up to 24 inches long. I really want to thank everyone that has been a loyal customer and all the support given. We ( my wife Dawn and myself) have begun to do Craft Events and hope to do more in 2025.
